DMW and the Philippine Embassy Conduct Worksite Visits to OFWs in Budapest

Budapest, Hungary – The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), led by Assistant Secretary Julyn Ambito-Fermin and Ambassador Maria Elena Algabre of the Philippine Embassy in Budapest, recently visited a mushroom farm in Hungary employing more than 200 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

During the visit, OFWs provided positive feedback about their work and living conditions. Many have been with the company for several years, with some continuously employed for over 2 to 6 years—proof of a stable and supportive work environment. Employer representative Ms. Anita Kovacs shared that the company is dedicated to retaining its workers and regularly extends contracts to keep experienced and committed employees.

DMW and embassy officials also took the opportunity to update OFWs on government programs and services available to them, including the digitalization of employment services, the OFW Pass, reintegration programs such as the LIKHA Business Plan Competition series, Sa Pinas Ikaw ang Mam and Sir (SPIMS), and passport and notarial services. The officials reaffirmed the Philippine government’s ongoing commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of Filipino workers abroad. Besides the mushroom farm, the delegation also visited OFWs working at an aviation company at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. The workers reported favorable working and living conditions, describing Hungary as a welcoming and supportive place for Filipino migrant workers.
